Gazza’s Corner is a blog under the direction of Gary M. Nelson, PMP, Gazza to his friends and blogosphere mates. Gazza is an IT consultant and Project Manager who has worked in the Telecom and Student Information Systems sectors since graduating from Simon Fraser University (BC, Canada) in 1989. His international experience includes projects in New Zealand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the US and Canada.
Gary’s writing goes beyond the PPM blogosphere, too: he recently published “Gazza’s Guide to Practical Project Management”, co-authored with Eileen McAvoy and available on Amazon.
“I enjoy training and helping others – and I also enjoy writing,” he told us recently of publishing his weekly-updated blog since 2011. Of the philosophy he brings to his PPM readers, Gazza added:
“Life is complicated. If we can simplify the job of getting things done, the better off we usually are. This is particularly important in managing projects. In this blog, I tackle the complexity of managing projects by breaking the essential components of Project Management down into practical, simple concepts. Whether you simply have an interest in Project Management or are already managing them, this blog has something for you.
“For most people, we remember things best when they are accompanied by music, or are part of a story. While there is no musical score to the blog, there are plenty of project management lessons wrapped in entertaining stories to help the concepts stick.”
Gazza has 11 years in the Telecommunications area, working with real-time network management systems, plus 11 years in the student information systems space. He says Gazza’s Corner is targeted for all project managers, “novice to experienced” with an aim for sharing knowledge he’s gained first-hand.
His most popular post deals with Volunteer projects:
Some of his favourites include these three posts:
- Everything I Need To Know About Risk Management I Learned From My Pocket Umbrella
- Project Planning 1.0: The Importance of the Project Kickoff
- Once Upon A Time: Your Project is a Story
