The Practicing IT PM is another recent addition to PPM blogosphere by Las Vegas native Dave Gordon, IT Project Portfolio Manager for MGM Resorts International since 2006.
Starting in June 2010 (merely two months before this feature), Dave felt The Practicing IT PM would be the perfect outlet for sharing an expertise that stretches over 25 years in IT and has afforded him the experience of managing projects in software development, ERP and business process outsourcing all across the United States, Canada, Spain and the UK. An outlet that, he told us, he plans to stick to, with a post rate that leads to 2-3 updates each week.
“I wanted a creative outlet that would give me an both opportunity and an obligation to write,” Dave says. “I do a few hours of reading and research each week in order to have something to blog about, and that is already making me more effective in my job.”
Dave says Practicing IT PM provides news, articles, links, book reviews, and insight into information technology and project management techniques, tools, and trends.
“Each Sunday, I do a weekly summary of articles posted on the web of interest to practicing IT project managers,” he says. “I also have created a list of recommended books, including both “dead tree” and Kindle E-books, available via a link to Amazon.
“I wanted to have a reason to write regularly, but I also wanted to write about something of professional interest to me. I find that the reading and research I do is significantly improving my skill set, benefiting me ‘on the job.’”
David has three particular posts that he lists as his favourites in the early days of Practicing IT PM:
