April 7, 2010 0The pm411.org Project Management Podcast is hosted by Ron Holohan, a Chicago-based Director of Programmer Management in audio manufacturing that frequently features some of the top names in PPM for his bi-weekly podcast. Ron tries to use the pm411 as both a blog and podcast to provide his audience with up to date best practices and tools in the field of project management. pm411 consistently ranks among the top podcasts on iTunes for project management. And his inspiration for the podcast? Music.
“I wanted to expand his passion for project management outside of my own company walls and find out first hand how others were achieving success in project management,” Ron says. “Also, having been a struggling musician for years, I felt that podcasting would probably put my home recording studio to better use!”
“Podcasting and writing really allows me to combine my passions for project management with learning and sharing the experiences from others with my audience.”
Ron says that when he premiered pm411 in February 2007, he had a new podcast up each week. Since then, the podcast have become bi-weekly, as he has expanded the blog post element to provide written copy for his readers to, in Ron’s words “provide the best experience for my audience.”
“Pm411.org is a place where you can come to find the latest in tools, tips, and methodologies that have been found to help others,” he says. “It is a place where discussions can be heard with project management practitioners, leaders, authors, and experts from around the globe and in every industry where project management permeates. It is a place where you can find the best links to other sites dedicated to our wonderful profession.”
“Each ‘episode’ has a streaming and downloadable audio and occasionally video file available on the blog itself. In addition, there is typically a pretty detailed article summarizing the details of the interview or discussion for those that prefer reading over listening. Hopefully, as a result, it provides the best of multiple worlds!”
As the University of Illinois graduate is based in Chicago and has carved out a niche for expertise in audio and music production, Ron uses pm411 to reach far and wide to a worldwide audience of both beginners and seasoned professionals in PPM.
“I love to dig into minds of my guests to find out what they are thinking or what they have experienced. Then I try to figure out how their experiences can be applied to my own project as well as for that project manager in Dubai, and that program manager in Manchester, and that project management student in upstate New York.”
One of the more popular posts/episodes pm411 has put forward revolves around the three-part series Ron hosted on how to overcome various “Schedule Killers”. It began with the following link to Episode 45:
