The Tao of Project Management

The Tao of Project Management, by John Carroll, places an emphasis on the importance of soft skills so crucial to managing projects that can be often ignored in the place of hard skills and methodologies.

John is a veteran project manager, PM consultant and trainer with over 35 years of experience in the field. He has worked in finance, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, government and higher education, having embarked on retirement from his post at the University of Exeter. He has written two books on the subject: Project Management in Easy Steps and Project 2007 in Easy Steps, with a 2010 update on the way. John blogs for The Tao of Project Management at the end of each week, reflecting for his audience of project managers what has happened and what it means. He is further influenced by what he calls “The way of the project manager.”

“I am motivated to blog through my interest in sharing thoughts and ideas and getting feedback. Maybe one day turning it into another book,” he says. “The Tao is an exploration of how things happen with the hope of understand more of the way wise project managers function. Comparing this to the advice and guidance of Lao Tsu in the Tao Te Ching.”

John has been blogging weekly for The Tao of Project Management since he started the blog in the summer of 2006. He looks forward to publishing “Microsoft Project 2010 in Easy Steps”, but says there is no publication date set as of yet. “It’s dependent on final release of the product,” he says.
