The Enterprise Navigation

The Enterprise Navigator, by Terry Doerscher, includes subjects related to business management and integration, with an emphasis on topics related to portfolio management and the modern PMO. Terry says Enterprise Navigator is intended to be informative and educational, presented in a light hearted, entertaining manner.

Terry spearheads posts at Enterprise Navigator, as a subsidiary of Planview. Terry serves as a Chief Process Architect and spokesman for Planview, complete with 28 years of experience as a  practitioner and consultant in the areas of work and resource management, PMO development and operation, strategic planning, process development, and PPM tool implementation. He says he started Enterprise Navigator in August 2007 “to share industry information and practices.”

“Part of my role as a company spokesperson is to share our thought leadership in the public domain, which means using several different outlets to interact with those in the general community of practice. I enjoy writing and want to give back to the profession that has done so much for me.  It also serves as a creative outlet.”

The blog’s intended audience includes a wide range of management professionals – PMO leaders and staff, project managers, resource managers, business analysts, process architects, department heads and product managers, to name a few.

Terry’s expertise draws on 6 years in the US Navy Nuclear Power Program and Submarine Service and 18 years in the nuclear utility industry, primarily in planning, PMO and engineering roles. He has worked the last 10 years at Planview in a variety of roles, including one in which has saw him lead the ‘PMO 2.0′ initiative, complete with leadership forums, whitepapers, webcasts and research. He co-authored Taming Change with Portfolio Management with Planview CEO Pat Durbin, which is due out in June 2010, and is a founding director of the Enterprise Management Association – International.

Terry lists a 2008 article on a PMO Survey as the most widely read Enterprise Navigator post:

Essential PMO Staffing, 2008 PMO 2.0 Survey Report and Webcast

He also lists five posts from over 100 total as his favourites:

Bawdy PMO humor on the relationship between schedules and process

Sponsorship is not a Spectator Sport

The case for a well-rounded process improvement strategy

Managing risk through incremental decision-making

Does methodology matter? About as much as fashion…
